What to expect
Word documents can look different on another computer: a missing font changes line breaks, and page numbers move. Converting to PDF freezes the layout, which is why applications, contracts, CVs and school work are usually submitted as PDFs.
Headers, footers, tables, images, footnotes and page numbers are all kept. Common Microsoft fonts are matched with metric-compatible fonts, so text takes up the same space and pages break in the same places.
